The Story of Bottled Water
“The Story of Bottled Water, released on March 22, 2010 (World Water Day) tells
the story of manufactured demand -- how you get Americans to buy more than half
a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over
five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industry’s attacks on tap
water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the
mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to take
back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water,
but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all.”

Bottled Water: Pure Drink or Pure Hype
"Bottled water sold in the United States is not necessarily cleaner or safer than most tap water, according to a four-year scientific study recently made public by NRDC.
About one-fourth of bottled water is actually bottled tap water, according to government and industry estimates (some estimates go as high as 40 percent). And FDA rules allow bottlers to call their product "spring water" even though it may be brought to the surface using a pumped well, and it may be treated with chemicals."

The Hidden Life of Bottled Water
"You might think a mountain stream on the label offers some clue to the contents. But sometimes, to paraphrase Freud, a bottle is just a bottle. Let's assume your store-bought water meets all the safety standards. What about the bottle? Because containers that sit for weeks or months at room temperature are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria, a bottle that met federal safety standards when it left the plant might have unsafe bacteria levels by the time you buy it. . . . But even more troubling is what may be leaching from the plastic containers. Scientists at the FDA found traces of bisphenol A -- an endocrine disruptor that can alter the reproductive development of animals -- after 39 weeks in water held at room temperature in large polycarbonate containers (like that carboy atop your office water cooler).”

Study: Bottled Water No Better Than Tap Water

difference between bottled water and tap water -- apart from
cost . . . .”
